Starting School and SEND

Starting school is a major milestone for any child, but we know it can feel especially daunting for parents of children with additional needs

Whether additional needs have already been identified, whether there’s a diagnosis in place or whether you’re just starting to have some concerns, this new phase can feel additionally worrying.

Our workshop, Starting School and SEND, aims to provide parents and carers with all the facts and information needed to support the journey to primary school, which we hope can take away some at the uncertainty and worry that parents of children with additional needs experience.

There is a broad legal framework that ensures that children with special educational needs receive the support that they need when in school, this starts with support called SEN Support and where necessary moves into an EHC Plan. In our workshop we cover everything that SEN Support can provide for your child and when an EHC Plan may be necessary. We also cover when specialist settings may be considered.

Our workshops are held in small groups in our dedicated training space, The Green Room, which means there is plenty of time for questions and parent and carers have the opportunity to meet other families.

Workshops are hosted by staff from The Compass Partnership, all of whom are from Bolton and have children/young people with additional needs.

A range of refreshments are provided.

Booking is compulsory.
